Meet Our Team Our History Steeped in passion, pride, and relationships Going Back To 1946 Founded in 1946, COFCO, A Henricksen Company, is one of Philadelphia’s longest-standing commercial furniture dealers and among the oldest Allsteel dealerships nationwide. Now part of Henricksen, we combine decades of experience and shared values to create workplaces that foster positive culture and support business success. 1946 With a trailer of surplus and a passion for furniture, David Einstein founded Commercial Trading Company. Through his integrity and hard work, David successfully transitions the company into an office furniture dealership exclusively selling pre-owned solutions and changes the name of the company to Commercial Office Furniture Co. (COFCO). David also gets married this year. 1970 David’s son, Alan, joins the company and by the mid-70’s is heading up the sales and marketing. David focuses on growth, real estate, and operations while Alan leads sales. Their “divide and conquer” approach works — both sales and the company grow. Later rebranded as Allsteel, the partnership endures COFCO remains its longest-tenured dealer in the U.S. Today, Allsteel is a HNI Corporation brand made in Muscatine, Iowa. David becomes a dealer for Allsteel Equipment, a major desk, file, and chair maker based in Aurora, Illinois. 1952 This leadership handoff strengthens COFCO’s foundation. Alan brings fresh energy through relationships with architects, designers, and clients, while David focuses on strategy and long-term growth together guiding COFCO’s evolution from a family business into a recognized player in the Philadelphia market. Alan becomes President and David becomes Chairman. 1976 Henricksen’s acquisition of COFCO results in expanded reach and resources for both organizations. With values and strong histories in common, COFCO, A Henricksen Company, and Henricksen continue a legacy of courage, creativity, and respect. COFCO is acquired by Henricksen and rebrands to COFCO, A Henricksen Company. Erin Costello is promoted to Vice President of Sales. 2022 2016 Joan Waters becomes CEO and majority owner of COFCO and partners with Alan Einstein to lead the organization. Joan’s passion, experience, and focus on building a strong team guides COFCO’s next chapter. Joan champions a new vision that honors COFCO’s legacy while embracing the future of work. 2025 Joan Waters becomes Divisional General Manager with oversight of DC, NY and PA, and Erin Costello becomes General Manager of the Philadelphia office. Joan transforms COFCO from a mid-market dealership into a major contract player, co-branding with Allsteel.
